BSF AND CUSTOMS APPREHENDED A SMUGGLER IN JOINT OPERATION WITH SILVER ORNAMENTS WORTH MORE THAN THREE LAKH

On 17th November, 2022, troops of Border Out Post Bithari, 112 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, foiled smuggling attempts and apprehended a woman smuggler with 6.200 kg of silver ornaments. The estimated value of the seized silver is 3,15,077/- rupees.


The jawans on duty received information that silver jewelery was hidden in the house of Ashful Shahji in village Hakimpur for smuggling. As soon as the jawans received the information, they immediately raided the said house along with the officials of the Custom Department, Tentulia. During the raid, the head of the village namely Nepal Parmanik was present there. When the house was thoroughly searched, silver ornaments were found in black and brown colored polythene.  Apart from this, Suits and Sarees were also found from her house. The jawans immediately confiscated the jewelery and apprehended the woman smuggler name Najma Khatoon. After this, the jawans brought the said woman smuggler to Border Out Post Hakimpur for further questioning.


During interrogation, the woman revealed that her husband had brought these ornaments to be smuggled into Bangladesh.  During the raid, she was with her daughter in the house and was guarding these ornaments.


The apprehended smuggler and the seized jewelery were handed over to the Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.


The Commanding Officer of 112 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. Due to which people indulged in activities like smuggling are facing a lot of difficulties and some of them are being apprehended and punished according to the law.
